Prayers for Peace

This was a video taken on New Year’s Eve a few years ago. Halved lemons were scooped and replaced with oil and a wick. We placed the lit oil lamps into the pond with prayers for peace and happiness.

“There is a light that shines beyond all things on earth, beyond us all, beyond the heavens, beyond the highest, the very highest heavens. This is the light that shines in our heart.”

– Upanishads

“We can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord.”

—2 Corinthians 3:18, The Living Bible

“Swift As A Star Flicker

Prayer, it does ascend
Up from the mind into the air
Through the highest cumulus
In an orange dusky sky

And higher still, like a tailed comet
Out of earth’s realm of spiraling starlights
And into the black of space,
And higher still

Past a rare jeweled galaxy
With stars like sapphires, rubies, emeralds and diamonds
Where a nebulous cloud, a violet mountain births
Explodes new stars forth

A factory place, a sandcastle of space
And higher still,
To the top of the highest universe-
That second sky

Swift as a star flicker
To God’s ear
An ear pressed close to the keyhole
Of that other Kingdom’s door

An ear so fine
That it can hear
Unspoken prayer clear
As a trumpet’s mighty blare

And God’s spirit reaches forth
Heaven descends
To companion the soul
That prays.”

Spirit Light

“This is the blissful striving of my heart’s desire:
To carry the light of the spirit
Into the cosmic winter night
so that sparkling seeds of my soul
may take root in cosmic soil—
and that the word of God may resound
through the darkness of my senses,
transfiguring my entire existence.”

—Rudolf Steiner,

Christmas Star

“Just as a star led the Magi to the Christ Child, so we are meant to be stars leading others to the Divine Love. Others are also stars for us, leading us to Divine Love. In each of us, the manifestation of Divine Love is a magnificent gift of hope and encouragement.”

—Joyce Rupp and Macrina Wiederkehr from The Circle of Life, Ave Maria Press

Lead Us to Thy Holy Light

One day, I noticed a nativity scene made by Mother Nature in the bark of a Chinese Pepper tree. I saw 3 kings on the right bending over the Christ child, with cherubic angelic faces above, and more angels on the ground peeking over the manger.

“Star of wonder, Star of night,
Star of royal beauty bright,Westward leading, still proceeding,
Lead us to thy Holy Light”

from the Christmas Carol “We Three Kings”

Make Your House Fair As You Are Able

mosaic Advent

A beautiful wreath was given to me on this first Sunday of Advent by Christine a few years ago.  This together with the Christmas carol “People Look East” inspired this mosaic.

It is a fusion of eastern and western traditions…

“People, look East, the time is near
Of the crowning of the year.
Make your house fair as you are able,
Trim the hearth and set the table.
People, look East and sing today:
Love, the Guest, is on the way.”

–Eleanor Farjeon [1881-1965]
