“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”
—Edith Lovejoy Pierce
This is true of any day. Today can be a new year. Thich Nhat Hanh has a gatha:
“Waking up this morning, I smile.
Twenty-four brand new hours are before me.
I vow to live fully in each moment and
to look at all beings with eyes of compassion.”
This gatha can be said in rhythm to our in and out breaths. We may not be able to control everything that happens in our lives, but we can choose to be happy.
