Generate Joy

Generate Joy

Last Wednesday was Ash Wednesday. Someone on my Facebook mentioned a word focus activity during lent, 2015 Lent Photo-A-Day. Today’s focus word is “Joy”.

These came to mind when I thought about “joy”:

  • It’s something we can generate no matter what the circumstance, there is something we can rejoice in, the blue sky, two eyes, someone’s smile.
  • By generating joy, it can help others in a domino effect, just as when someone laughs at something humorous in a crowd, it can become contagious and soon everyone is laughing.
  • Thus, we can become mini-suns, spreading light, spreading joy.
  • Since we are all interconnected, one flower of humanity, when one person is joyful, it affects the whole.

“In the chain of life, a deficiency in one link will affect the others. We need to understand that our every smile, word, and deed has the power to spread sunshine to the lives of many others. So, we need to make sure that our actions create joy and contentment not only for us but also for others.”—Amma, “Lead us to Purity”, p. 125

“Everything we think, feel, and do has an effect on our ancestors and all future generations and reverberates throughout the universe.”—Thich Nhat Hanh
