“Perfection of rhythm, balanced perfection of rhythm. Everything in Nature is expressed by rhythmic waves of light. Every thought and action is a light-wave of thought and action. If one interprets the God within one, one’s thoughts and actions must be balanced rhythmic waves. Ugliness, fears, failures and diseases arise from unbalanced thoughts and actions. Therefore think beauty always if one desire vitality of body and happiness.”

—Walter Russell

“Rhythm is my Heart, Groove is my Soul, GOD is my DJ and this is the Soundtrack of my Life.”

—Amy Georgette

“If you live the life you love, you will receive shelter and blessings. Sometimes the great famine of blessings in and around us derives from the fact that we are not living the life we love; rather, we are living the life that is expected of us. We have fallen out of rhythm with the secret signature and light of our own nature.”

—John O’Donohue

Rhythm is on my mind, as yesterday (July 18, 2010), I attended an afternoon workshop with a couple of friends to hear percussionist, Jim Greiner. It struck me that what he had to see about rhythms and drumming is really a philosophy of life. Before you sit or stand to drum (or whatever), “take a deep breath, relax….” I think this is a wonderful practice to bring into one’s daily life. The rhythms we tapped got me to thinking about the importance of daily rhythms and…the rhythm can be unstruck…a rhythmic unstruck beat to the rhythm of the Eternal. He reinforced how repetition can bring the beat into one’s body, so the mind can get out of the way, and one can go more deeply.
