Soft and Tender Name

This is a collaborative collage I did for Amma’s Circle of Love with Christine, Denise, Lorraine, Kirpal, Joya and Margaret. I cannot remember now where all the images came from, but the quote is from Christine’s German  calendar. She translated it as:

“Everything asks to be caressed and called by its soft and tender name.”

What a wonderful world it would be if everyone uttered our names with reverence and presence. We are all words and expressions of God.

“The whole of creation bespeaks its Maker. As the Greeks would say, the whole of creation is full of logoi, “little words”, that give expression to Logos, the WORD.”

– Pennington

I was always greatly comforted by the greeting I received from my dog when I was growing up. Always, always so happy to see me. Dogs do this with their masters. Young children and lovers naturally do this, too.

This collage also reminds me of a Biblical passage:

“I have called you by name, you are mine. . . You are precious in my eyes. . . I love you.”

— Isaiah 43:1, 4
