Reflect Essence of Beauty

“Let our souls turn into a mirror longing to reflect the essence of beauty”- Rumi

“Having a selfless attitude will uplift us. By helping others we are, in fact, helping ourselves. On the other hand, every time we do a selfish action, we are harming ourselves. Learn to bless everyone. Don’t ever curse anyone, because a human being is not just a bundle of flesh and blood. There is consciousness at work within everyone. That consciousness is not a separate, isolated entity; it is part of the whole, a Supreme Unity. Whatever we do is reflected in the Whole, in the one Universal Mind – and it returns to you with the same intensity. Whenever you do a good or bad action, it is reflected in the Universal Consciousness. Therefore, learn to be selfless and learn how to send blessings to everyone. Pray for everyone, because we need the support and blessings of all of Creation for our upliftment. When we pray for others the entire universe prays for us; and when we bless others the whole universe blesses us, because man is one with the cosmic energy.”—Amma, Awaken Children, Vol. VIII

Blessing of Rain

We are blessed by this rain in California giving some relief to the drought.

“For God, the living God, I thirst, like dew upon the fleece come down, like rain upon the desert sand, like light into a darkened room. As parched earth breaks for need of rain so my heart breaks but not in vain. When wilt thou on my vision burst? For thee my living God I thirst.”

– hymn, Sicut Cervus, Sister Frances Clare

Ancient Oak

ancientoak_web

held above by the heavens of infinity
rooted below by Mother Earth
this tree seems to be longing to unite both heaven and earth
like a bridge or conduit
in the state of be-long-ing
some parts of it wanting to touch the sky
and another part
wanting to return to its roots from which it came
love roots
and sky roots
both home
remembering from where it came

Rhythm

“Perfection of rhythm, balanced perfection of rhythm. Everything in Nature is expressed by rhythmic waves of light. Every thought and action is a light-wave of thought and action. If one interprets the God within one, one’s thoughts and actions must be balanced rhythmic waves. Ugliness, fears, failures and diseases arise from unbalanced thoughts and actions. Therefore think beauty always if one desire vitality of body and happiness.”

—Walter Russell

Blessing Tree

When I saw this beautiful scene, it was my birthday. I was high up in the Rocky Mountains on a morning hike. It seemed like there were diamonds glittering in the water near the duck. The thought of my late husband and ancestors came to mind.  I made a comfort card using the words suggested by Mother Nature:

Rosary Tree

tree with flowers that look like rosaries

“True love in every moment praises God. Longing love brings a sorrow sweet to the pure. Seeking love belongs to itself alone. Understanding love gives itself equally to all. Enlightened love is mingled with the sadness of the world. But selfless love bears an effortless fruit, Working so quietly even the body cannot say how it comes and goes.”—Mechtild of Magdeburg, from “Women in Praise of the Sacred”, edited by Jane Hirshfield, p. 95

If a Flower Could Speak

lotus bud

“If a little flower could speak, it seems to me that it would tell us quite simply all that God has done for it, without hiding any of its gifts. It would not, under the pretext of humility, say that it was not pretty, or that it had not a sweet scent, that the sun had withered its petals,or the storm bruised its stem, if it knew that such were not the case.”

Be Lovers of Your Souls

This evening, I attended the 6th day of a 9-day prayer devotion to St. Clare of Assisi at a Poor Clare monastery. Right after the adoration of Christ in the form of consecrated bread, a priest gave a talk about St. Clare’s final words. I believe that her purity and constant love for God and others gave her words a lot of power. It must have been something she prayed each day in some form or other. Her presence was so palpable and living in the priest’s speaking of her words:
