Unsolid Ground

searching for solidity
wanting to be rooted in something deep
wanting nourishment
as a young babe searches for milk
instinctively rooting
sometimes life’s storms erodes the soil of our garden
and we have to live on the edge of unsolid ground
roots dangling in the air
perhaps so we have a chance to re-examine what we were rooted in
was it the soil of eternity
were the roots deep enough
was it real

Guard the Nest

found a “nest” at the beach.
decided to digitally collage a lamb from a Christmas nativity scene
the lamb keeping vigil with Baby Jesus

as the center “pearl” reminded me of the Christ child
and our heart’s inner nest
and treasure
of our vital breath

reminded me to watch what takes away from life
from the present moment
to notice the distractions that
take away from life’s goals

A Bride Married to Amazement

When death comes
like the hungry bear in autumn;
when death comes and takes all the bright coins from his purse

Joy Is Our True Nature

“A state of permanent joy, hidden at the very center of consciousness, is the Eden to which the long journey of spiritual seeking leads. There, the mystics of all religions agree, we uncover our original goodness. We don’t have to buy it, we don’t have to create it; we don’t have to pour it in; we don’t even have to be worthy of it. This native core is the essential core of human nature.

We are made, the scriptures of all religions assure us, in the image of God. Nothing can change our original goodness. Whatever mistakes we have made in the past, whatever problems we may have in the present, in every one of us the uncreated spark in the soul remains untouched, ever pure, ever perfect. Even if we try with all our might to douse or hide it, it is always ready to set our personality ablaze with light.”

—Eknath Easwaran, p. 260, “Words to Live By”, Nilgiri Press

Be Like A Bird

“Let us be like a bird for a moment perched
On a frail branch when he sings;
Though he feels it bend, yet he sings his song,
Knowing that he has wings.”

-Victor Hugo

The group, Libana,  sings a round based on Victor Hugo’s words. You can hear it  in at CD Baby. This makes a good repetitive chant to sing. I have a group meeting at my home . Sometimes we sing this.

“A bird sits on the dry twig of a tree and eats a piece of fruit it has found somewhere. It knows that the twig may break at any moment; so it is very alert as it sits on the twig. You should understand that this world is like that. Everything may be lost at any moment. You should remember that, children. Be sure to hold on to the truth that only God is everlasting. Then there will be no reason for sorrow
