Teach Us How to Pray

One day I noticed a rainbow on a picture of a Biblical scene in my house.   It were if the light were on my own heart. The picture is a print of a painting in Switzerland, “Teach us how to pray”.

I Do to a Force that Knows No Gravitation

One Sunday, I was attending a church service, and the musician/songwriter Laura Berman sang this song below, “I Do”, which I found on her website.  I was so moved by her performance and song.

I DO , by Laura Berman Benelli

“Take away my doubts they only weigh me down
Hide all my don’t s and won’t so they can’t be found
Bottle up my fear and throw it into the sea
and if by chance one day it floats back to me,
I’ll just laugh out loud, and say here and now:
“I do to a love that knows no reservation
I do to a will that knows no hesitation
I do to a choice with no expectation
I used to say don’t but now “I do” ”

Take away this life I thought was safe and sound,
Loosen up these ties that only kept me bound
Shred all my limitations and my beliefs,
let the confetti fall into the street,
this is my parade, my time to proclaim:
“I do to a love that knows no reservation
I do to a will that knows no hesitation
I do to a choice with no expectation
I do to a dream that knows no limitation
I do to a force that knows no gravitation
I do to a high with no intoxication

I used to say don’t but now “I do, I do, I do”…”

“We should understand that life gives us what we need and not
necessarily what we want. It follows its own wisdom, which is often incomprehensible to our gross minds. We should learn to accept situations in life. This attitude of acceptance is the secret to happiness.”

—Amma, New Year’s Speech, 2008

Pour Strength Into My Soul

Pour Strength Into My Soul

“Your words to me are life and health; Pour strength into my soul; Enable, guide and teach my heart to reach its perfect goal.  Your words to me are light and truth; from day to day they show their wisdom, passing earthly lore, as in their truth I grow.  Your words are perfected in one, Yourself, the living Word; within my heart your image print in clearest lines, O Lord.”

– hymn by George Currie Martin, 1865- 1937

Wash Away Your Worries

Wash Away Worries

I love the sound and rhythm of the ocean.

When I was at the beach one day, I wanted to make a visual and kinesthetic prayer. So I composed a prayer in my mind. Got a stick. Got my feet wet. Wrote my prayer. And smiled at the whole experience of the dissolving words. Even my footprints disappeared.

Mary’s Song

Mother Mary Collage

Mother Mary’s song: “My Soul Doth Magnify the Lord”

“When you behold everything as God, you are always in a worshipful mood. When there are no feelings of otherness, your whole life becomes an act of worship, a form of prayer, a song of praise.”

—Amma, “Awaken Children!”. Vol IX, pg 151

This statue and the tree images were taken at the Poor Clares monastery, Immaculate Heart Monastery. I took the photos of the trees from inside the chapel.
