Relax for more strength and vitality

“Drop all your regrets of the past and relax. Relaxation will help you acquire more strength and vitality. Relaxation is a technique through which you can catch a glimpse of your real nature, the infinite power source of your existence. Learn to be relaxed during times of stress and strain. Learn to stand aside and just watch the negative thoughts, the hurt feelings and the mental agony you are going through. As this happens, withdraw your cooperation and your involvement with the stress and the agony. Once you learn this technique, you will realize that the tension, burdens and negativity you are carrying belong to the mind; they don’t belong to the inner Self, your true being.” —Amma, “Awaken Children” Volume 8, p. 73-74

Three Generations

Inspired by this family of flowers, the youthfulness, freshness of a bud behind the aging flower who is modeling “being complete”, putting everything in order, tying up loose ends, preparing to die at any moment. And then the glory of the flower at its peak, living each moment well therefore preparing for its death and future generations.

“Put everything in order
as day begins to fade.
All things are passing,
moment by moment,
breath by breath.
All things are passing,
moment by moment,
birth to death.
Take off that cloak of fear,
the divine strength you see is here,
and you know you are dying to live.
So put everything in order
as day begins to fade.”

by Sr. Macrina Wiederkehr,“sevensacredpauses, Living Mindfully Through the Hours of the Day”, published by Sorin Books, p. 124-125

Circle Dance

Tickling the green

A beautiful spring day and sacred circle dancing led by Maureen and Andrea at my neighborhood park…

“Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in where nature may heal and cheer and give strength to the body and soul.”
—John Muir

“I know nothing, except what everyone knows if there when Graces dances, I should dance.”—W. H. Auden

“The nature of God is a circle of which the center is everywhere and the circumference is nowhere.”—Empedocles

“When our eyes see our hands doing the work of our hearts, the circle of Creation is completed inside us, the doors of our souls fly open, and love steps forth to heal everything in sight.”—Michael Bridge

Influence

I have found that surrounding myself by supportive people can give me much strength when I am feeling weak. The collective group energy can be very palpable. When I don’t have enough concentration, sitting with a community can be very beneficial. When I don’t have any devotion, attending a devotional gathering can open my heart. There is a catching influence.

“Who shall set a limit to the influence of a human being? ”

– Ralph Waldo Emerson

Let This Darkness Be a Bell Tower

“Quiet friend who has come so far,
feel how your breathing makes more space around you.
Let this darkness be a bell tower
and you the bell. As you ring,

what batters you becomes your strength.
Move back and forth into the change.
What is it like, such intensity of pain?
If the drink is bitter, turn yourself to wine.

In this uncontainable night,
be the mystery at the crossroads of your senses,
the meaning discovered there.

And if the world has ceased to hear you,
say to the silent earth: I flow.
To the rushing water, speak: I am.”

–Rainer Maria Rilke, “Sonnets to Orpheus”

Candle Light

“The teacher is like the candle which lights others in consuming itself.”—Giovanni Ruffini

“You should pray with love and devotion. Your hearts should melt as you pray. Tears are sometimes considered to be a weakness. But shedding tears for the vision of God is not a weakness at all. The brilliance of the candle increases as it melts down. Tears are an easy way to make the mind more expansive. Our tears wash away the impurities of the mind, and we gain strength from this.”—Amma, “Lead Us to Purity”, p. 12

Focus Word: Speak

As I watched this turtle, I imagined he was speaking:

“You, O Lord, are my lamp, my God who lightens my darkness. With you I can break through any barrier, with my God I can scale any wall. As for God, his ways are perfect; the word of the Lord, purest gold. He indeed is the shield of all who make him their refuge. For who is God but the Lord? Who is a rock but our God? The God who girds me with strength and makes the path safe before me.”

-Psalm 18: 29-33

“For in the time of trouble
He shall hide me in His pavilion;
In the secret place of His tabernacle
He shall hide me;
He shall set me high upon a rock. .”

—Psalm 27:5

Place

focus word: place

Now is a dwelling place, a space. Wherever you go, it can be your home, a place of awareness, a place where Divine can be felt. Present moment. Eternal moment.

The heart is a space from which one can call upon Divine 24/7.

Reminds me of Jesus’ words about place: “The last will be first, and the first will be last.”

Align Divine, and all will  be fine, will fall into place.

Print in Clearest Lines, O Lord

“Your words to me are life and health; Pour strength into my soul; Enable, guide and teach my heart to reach its perfect goal. Your words to me are light and truth; from day to day they show their wisdom, passing earthly lore, as in their truth I grow. Your words are perfected in one, Yourself, the living Word; within my heart your image print in clearest lines, O Lord.”

– hymn by George Currie Martin, 1865- 1937
