Art and Science

“All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree. All these aspirations are directed toward ennobling man’s life, lifting it from the sphere of mere physical existence and leading the individual towards freedom.”—Albert Einstein

“Mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty—a beauty cold and austere, like that of sculpture, without appeal to any part of our weaker nature, without the gorgeous trappings of painting or music, yet sublimely pure, and capable of a stern perfection such as only the greatest art can show.” –Bertrand Russell, “A History of Western Philosophy”
“Sculpture is the art of intelligence.”—Pablo Picasso

“[T]here shall be love between the poet and the man of demonstrable science. In the beauty of poems are the tuft and final applause of science.”—Walt Whitman

Path is a Spiral

“The path isn’t a straight line; its a spiral. You continually come back to things you thought you understood and see deeper truths.”

—Barry H. Gillespie

“What is art but life upon the larger scale, the higher. When, graduating up in a spiral line of still expanding and ascending gyres, it pushes toward the intense significance of all things, hungry for the infinite?”

—Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Repetition does not have to be boring

repetition can give beautiful structure
and an orderedness
can bring comfort

the repetition of a positive phrase, mantra,
can have the effect of stilling the mind
of de-cluttering the mind
of polishing the soul
of reflecting the world the way it is
of seeing the truth
not distorted
of feeling God’s presence
of practicing concentration

repetition of a good habit or practice
can be like steady nailing of your boat,
so when the storms come,
you will have a solid boat
you won’t sink

Clarity

“When there is inward awareness of every activity of your mind and your body, when you are aware of your thoughts, of your feelings, both secret and open, conscious and unconscious, then out of this awareness there comes a clarity that is not induced, not put together by the mind.  And without that clarity, you may do what you will, you may search the heavens, and the earth, and the deeps, but you will never find out what is true.”

– J. Krishnamurti

Reflection Word: Sabbath

new leaf

could be a day out in Nature to refresh and renew, enjoying the great cathedral of the outdoors

could be as short as one refreshing breath

could be time in church, meditation, prayer

could be a walk with no destination in mind,  just savoring each breath, tree and flower, taking the time

I found some new leaves nestled in a pink “nest” to savor
